Helping Children Earn an Extra Life

Extra Life Video Game Maraton October 15, 2011

I love telling people about the charity I helped sponsor to aid children at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. How’d I do it? By playing video games 24-hours-straight. I’m still amazed by the generosity of the people who donated in support of helping children around the world.

This year marks my second year where I will take to the controller in support of the kids at Doernbecher. Last year, the generosity of friends and family helped blow my original goal of $96 out of the water and we ended up donating a total of $241 to Doernbecher. This year, I’ve decided to set my goal to $250. The object of the marathon is to get people to donate one dollar for each hour of the marathon, but anyone can donate any amount they’d like. With this goal, it would take just over 10 people donating for each hour to reach it.

Without the help of friends, family, and gracious anonymous fellows, this won’t mean much to anyone. So, I would like to ask my community for any tips or suggestions about ways to reach out to potential donors. Last year, I updated people quite frequently throughout the day and night about what I was playing, how I felt and let me just say, those last four hours are BRUTAL. If you have any suggestions for ways to entertain people throughout the 24 hours, send them my way. I have a webcam this year, so there are extra possibilities using video.

If you’re interested in donating, please follow the link to my donation page. If you would like more information, you can head over to the Sarcastic Gamer blog and at the Extra Life 2011 website. For more information on Doernbecher Children’s hospital, check out their website and Facebook page.

Thank you in advance to anyone who decides to make a donation. Your contribution to helping children earn an extra life is appreciated more than you could imagine.
